Univision

Bringing a Change of Technology to On-Air Graphics

I won my first Emmy, for Best Art Direction, in 2004 while working for Univision.
This was not just a personal achievement. It was the first time the network had won in this category. Competing against the multimillion-dollar budget that English-speaking networks had, I had to make good use of technology and every bit of creativity I could muster. While the networks were still working with the old and expensive Silicon Graphics machines, when I took the job as Art Director I had a clear idea. I replaced everything with Apple computers, taught the staff basic tools like Photoshop and After Effects, and brought hungry talent that had mastered the tools already and were ready to show to the world that a shift in technology was taking place and there was no turning back.
